Crescendo

Nestled within Chicago’s lakeside museum campus, Crescendo is an institution that blends a music school with a museum dedicated to sound and music.

Site-Centered Design

The project is located on Northerly Island, surrounded by a harbor, beach, and the Adler Planetarium. To allow full access to the beach and the South side of the island, the massing lifts up into bridges while the landscape dips down, allowing full outdoor access.

Acoustic Design

A central part of Crescendo is the auditorium, a performance space on the axis of the school and the museum, meant to be used by both programs. To ensure quality acoustic design, the model was evaluated using the Pachyderm plug-in for Grasshopper and designed accordingly.
